Hiking: from the main street, coming from the dock, turn right, to find the ancient Mayan trail that runs along the cliff-side to Santa Cruz (30 minutes) or left towards Tzununa (2 hours), San Marcos (2,5 hours), and San Pedro (5 hours). Also from the main street, if you keep going up, past the village, you will find a small trail with water falls and exceptional views. Ask villagers for directions. Don't forget to take water and sun-block with you as it can be dry and hot.

Water activities: the water temperature is around 20°C / 70°F, Afternoon winds often make the lake surface quite choppy, so water activities are best practiced in the morning.

La Iguana Perdida Diving: This high altitude (1560m), fresh water volcanic crater lake offer a unique environment for divers looking for new experiences. Visibility varies between 4 - 14m / 12 - 45ft.

Swimming and Kayaking: the lake is safe and clean for swimming. For safety reasons, we recommend that you swim away from water traffic.

Volcano climbing is seasonal in Guatemala, best months are November through February. Local guided tours can be arranged on request with three days advance notice. Local guides for climbing Volcano San Pedro or Volcano Atitlan, may be found at village public docks.

Mountain Bike Rides: lake side rides for all skill levels may be arranged with Pueblo Viejo Outfitters. They require two days advance notice.
